We’ve all heard about global warming. It’s been in the news for over a decade now. Whether it was the hole in the ozone or the ban on chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s) that first drew your attention to the issue, we now know that it is something that we may have to contend with sooner rather than later. The National Academy of Sciences has issued a report that states “by the year 2100, temperatures are excepted to increase between 2.5 degrees and 10.4 degrees Fahrenheit above those of 1990”. This increase will affect the Great Plains area of the United States hardest. So far, the US government has failed to set limits on carbon dioxide emissions, a known cause of global warming. Do you think that they should reverse their policy and set tighter standards on the amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are allowed to be emitted into the air?
